Russia announces the capture of the town of Skuchne, in eastern Ukraine

Moscow claims to have carried out new attacks against Ukrainian energy and military infrastructure

September 2 () –

Russian authorities announced on Monday that they had captured the town of Skuchne in the Donetsk province in eastern Ukraine, as Russian troops advance in the Pokrovsk district as part of an invasion that began two and a half years ago.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the city had been “liberated” following the defeat of several Ukrainian formations by the forces of the Russian Army’s southern group.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed a new series of attacks against energy and military infrastructure in Ukraine and noted that the defensive actions of Ukrainian troops have had no effect in the areas of Verkhnekamenskoye, Grigorovka, Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Predtechino and Maksimilyanovka in Donetsk.

In addition, Russian soldiers managed to repel a counterattack by the 144th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which failed to stop the advance. In addition, 520 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the fighting, which resulted in the destruction of four vehicles and two British-made howitzers. At least five Ukrainian armouries were also destroyed.

The text points to the defeats suffered by the Ukrainian army in the towns of Dzerzhinsk, Nelepovka, Selidovo, Grodovka, Zhuravka, Zavetnoye and Memrik over the last day, clashes which have resulted in another 475 casualties among the Ukrainian forces.

Russian troops have confirmed new massive attacks with long-range precision weapons in Ukraine, which have also spread to the areas of Vodyanoye, Ugledar, Prechistovka and Velika Novosyolka, in addition to the offensives against Novodanilovka and Lobkovoe, in the Zaporizhia province, and against Tokarevka, Berislav and Kherson, in the province of the same name.

Ukrainian authorities have reported that at least five people were killed — four in Kurakhov and one in Petrivka — and a dozen wounded on Sunday in Russian attacks on Donetsk. According to government estimates, 2,720 people have died in the region since the invasion began, figures that exclude data collected in Mariupol and Volnovakha.
