Russia announces the capture of the town of Mayorsk, in the Donetsk region

The Russian Ministry of Defense has informed this Sunday of the capture of the town of Mayorsk, in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk, the day after the total Russian withdrawal from the city of Kherson.

“As a result of the successful offensive operations of the Russian troops, the town of Mayorsk has been completely liberated in the direction of Donetsk,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency TASS. .

In this Russian advance, troops and material from the “enemy” have been “eliminated”, the general has made known.

Mayorsk is located on the outskirts of the city of Horlivka, also called Gorlovka, north of the provincial capital, Donetsk.

In that same area, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, had reported intense fighting on Saturday. “It’s hell,” he said in a message in which he celebrated the capture of the city of Kherson after the Russian withdrawal after eight months of occupation.
