Russia announces the capture of another town in the province of Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine

The Russian authorities announced this Monday the capture of another town located in the Ukrainian province of Donetsk, in the east of the country, in line with the progress made in recent months in this area within the framework of the invasion unleashed in February 2022 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement on its Telegram account that “units of the Vostok Group continue to advance deep into the enemy defenses and have liberated the town of Staromayorskoye, in the Donetsk People’s Republic.”

Thus, he stated that they have also managed to prevail over the Ukrainian forces in clashes around Neskuchnoye, Ugledar, Urozhainoye, Velikaya Novoselka and Vodyanoye, combats that have resulted in 140 casualties among the Ukrainian forces, according to Moscow.

On the other hand, he stated that Ukraine has lost about 255 soldiers in combat in the province of Kharkiv (northeast), before adding that it has “improved the situation on the front line” in Serebrianka, in Donetsk, and in Berestovoe, Sinkovka and Timkovka, in Kharkiv, combats in which Ukrainian troops would have suffered “about 570 casualties.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense has also estimated at “close to 775” the Ukrainian casualties in fighting in other towns in Donetsk, one of the epicenters of the fighting in recent months, before emphasizing that since the beginning of the invasion it has destroyed more than 610 planes, 276 helicopters and about 25,500 Ukrainian drones.

The provinces of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, partially occupied as part of the invasion, were annexed in October 2022 by Russia, a measure not recognized by the international community that adds to the 2014 annexation of the peninsula. of Crimea, a fact that has not been recognized internationally either.
