At least 10 people have died and another 20 have been injured as a result of Syrian and Russian bombings in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the first since the major incursion carried out by opposition forces to the Syrian Government, led by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) and allies, in the second most important city in the country.

Sources from the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim – Iran is a strategic ally of the Syrian Government – have confirmed that the bombing was carried out by “Syrian and Russian warplanes” and was directed against a “concentration of terrorists in a city roundabout”.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an organization of activists with sources inside the country, points out that at least 30 people “among civilians and militiamen” have died in these bombings on the Al Basil roundabout, but assures that practically all of the city is under the control of the HTS to the point that it is taking over the international airport.

For its part, the Syrian Army has announced, hours after recognizing a “redeployment” of its forces due to the opposition advance, the beginning of “powerful attacks” in the area to prevent “terrorists from shoring up their positions.” Russia has already been carrying out attacks on rebel positions in the northwest of the country for hours to try to stop an offensive that Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov described on Friday as “an attack on Syrian sovereignty.”

“We are in favor of the Syrian authorities bringing order to the area and restoring constitutional order as quickly as possible,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, and according to the Observatory, at least 327 people have died, including civilians and elements of the sides in combat, since the beginning four days ago of the opposition offensive in Idlib and Aleppo, which the rebels describe as operation ” Deterrence of Aggression”, among them a hundred Syrian soldiers and allied forces and 155 HTS jihadists. The number of civilian deaths is around 50 due to attacks by both sides.
