The leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitaries, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, announced on Monday a two-day truce in Sudan on the occasion of Eid al Adha, one of the most important rites of the Islamic calendar.

“We declare a unilateral armistice for the two days of Arafah and the first day of Eid al Adha, except in cases of self-defense. We hope that these days will be an opportunity for tolerance and reconciliation among all components of our honorable people,” ‘Hemedti’ has stated in an audio from his Facebook account.

In addition, it has reported on the creation of a committee to investigate possible crimes by RSF soldiers against civilians in the city of Omdurman, Sky News Arabia has published.

The paramilitary leader has assured that they have begun to cooperate with civilians in the areas under their control to provide “security and services”, and has asked workers in vital sectors such as electricity, water and communications to begin work again under the protection of the RSF to guarantee these services.

He has also called on the people of Darfur to ignore “provocateurs” who are trying to trigger a civil war.

“We respect the right to peaceful demonstration and expression, but the current calls are a malicious plot to drag civilians into the cycle of war, and we ask not to respond to these calls and to avoid demonstrations in areas where military operations are currently taking place,” has added.

Previously, other ceasefire agreements had been announced in the country, although they were not respected; both the RSF and the Army accused each other of not complying with them.
