Terrible Toybox, the studio co-founded by Ron Gilbert, is working on a new role-playing video game that currently lacks a title but will have a retro style of the first The Legend of Zelda.
Gilbert has shared small previews of the video game that currently occupies part of his time, in your Mastodon accountwhere he also announced that Elissa Black has joined the project to work on the mission design part.
The new game will be a retro, pixel art-style RPG, which is expected to arrive at the end of this year, “or perhaps in early 2025,” according to Gilbert. The little that is known at the moment is that it will be a mix between classic Zelda, Diablo and Thimbleweed Park, as briefly described on the page studio website.
Gilbert recovered the saga of The Monkey Island in 2022 with a new title that follows the stories of the first two installments. It begins at a time when young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have driven the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and “famous businessman” Stan has been imprisoned for “marketing-related crimes.”
