Roman Polanski settled a lawsuit for alleged sexual assault of a minor more than 50 years ago.
The Oscar-winning director no longer faces a 10-day trial in the United States after reaching a deal.
“The case was settled over the summer to the mutual satisfaction of the parties and has now been formally dismissed,” Polanski’s representative told Fox News Digital.
Gloria Allred, who represented the unnamed accuser in the lawsuit, Jane Doe, provided a similar statement to Fox News Digital.
“The parties agreed to a settlement of claims for their mutual satisfaction,” he said.
According to the settled civil lawsuit, Jane Doe allegedly met Polanski at a party in 1973 when she was a minor.
She claimed he invited her to dinner knowing she was a minor. Doe alleged in the lawsuit that she met Polanski at his home in Benedict Canyon the night they were having dinner.
He served them tequila shots before driving to Le Restaurant on La Cienega in Los Angeles, according to the complaint.
Their table was not yet ready when they arrived, so they waited at the bar, where Polanski proceeded to order more tequila for both of them.
Once seated at her table, “the plaintiff began to feel dizzy from the tequila and went to the bathroom where she was sick,” according to the documents.
She went outside to get some fresh air and Polanski followed her before “taking her back to his house.”
In the complaint, Doe did not remember “how she got from the car to the defendant’s house,” but she passed out in Polanski’s bed.
He woke up with the director next to him, according to the documents.
“Defendant Polanski removed plaintiff’s clothing and proceeded to rape her, causing her tremendous physical and emotional pain and suffering.”
In 1977, Polanski fled the country after pleading guilty to having unlawful sexual relations with a minor, Samantha Geimer, in a separate case.
The “Chinatown” director met with Geimer last year.
Geimer was 13 at the time Polanski, who was in his 40s, was arrested and charged with rape by drug use, perversion, sodomy, furnishing a controlled substance to a minor, and lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14. .
After pleading guilty in 1977, Polanski fled and became a fugitive, first finding refuge in London and then settling in France.
While Polanski has never set foot on American soil or in any country that would extradite him to the United States, he has still made films and won an Academy Award for best director in 2002 for “The Pianist.”
In 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to expel Polanski and later defended its decision, saying he had been given a fair deal. opportunity to challenge the Academy’s ruling.
Polanski sued the Academy the following year, alleging that the group had not followed its own procedures when it voted to expel him.
He was expelled along with Bill Cosby for violating the organization’s rules of conduct.
In its response, the Academy said the board considered voluminous materials presented by Polanski in the appeal, including more than 400 pages of evidence and a detailed memo from his attorney.
Polanski also recorded a videotaped statement addressing the board of governors directly.
