Former British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak This Sunday he leads the race for the conservative leadership and the Government of the United Kingdom, by adding more than the 100 supports he needs from the deputies of his party to access the primaries. In addition, he is one step away from being elected Prime Minister after the withdrawal of Boris Johnson of the race to gain control of the Conservative Party.
At 2:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) this Monday the deadline for deputies who aspire to the ‘tory’ leadership to present their candidacies ends, as long as they have the support of at least 100 members of the parliamentary conservative group ( out of a total of 357).
A) Yes, no more than three deputies may become part of this primary process, which will end, unless there is only one applicant left this Monday, next Friday, October 28. After Johnson’s withdrawal there are only two candidates: Sunak and the leader of the Conservatives in the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt.

According to media estimates, Sunak has 144 supports while Mordaunt has 24. Boris Johnson maintains that he intended to achieve a unitary candidacy between the two opponents, but “unfortunately we have not been able to find a way to do it,” according to the former prime minister’s statement collected by Eph.
The so-called 1922 Committee, which brings together deputies without ministerial positions, has organized this process after Liz Truss resigned on Thursday as Conservative leader and prime minister as a result of the controversy surrounding his fiscal program -with tax cuts-, which caused turbulence in the financial markets.
Sunak is currently the favorite to win the keys to 10 Downing Street, the official residence, by continuing to gain support, including from deputies who previously supported Truss, as is the case of the former Home Secretary Suella Braverman and the current head of International Trade, Kemi Badenoch.
Unveiling his aspirations on his Twitter account, Sunak said the UK is facing a “deep economic crisis” and his goal is to overcome this situation and unite his party.

“The choice our party makes now will decide whether the next generation of Britons will have more opportunities than the last. That is why I am running to be your next Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party,” Sunak said.
The politician added that he was in charge of the Economy in the “hardest” moments for the country, in reference to the pandemic, but that the current challenges are even greater.
“There will be integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level of government that I lead. and I will work all the time to get the job done,” he said.
The leader of the Conservatives in the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, joined these primaries on Friday, although only 24 deputies have publicly declared their support.

For its part, Johnson has issued a statement in which he assures thatdespite having the necessary support from Conservative MPs, has come to the conclusion that “it just wouldn’t be the right thing to do” because “you cannot govern effectively unless you have a united party in Parliament”.
The straw-haired blond politician, who tendered his resignation in July, admitted that he was drawn to return to power for the electoral victory that his formation won in the 2019 general election, but stressed that the Government must now focus on the economic problems facing families in the United Kingdom.
In the midst of this crisis, the leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmerin the opposition, insisted this Sunday on his request for early general elections due to the chaos in which the ‘Tories’ are plunged.
