Researchers design a robot to pack your groceries at the supermarket

When you get to the checkout line at your favorite supermarket, you have to put the different items into the bags or cart, a process that is usually quite fast considering that the food the most delicate ones always have to be on top.

Although this process is quite fast due to the human ability to grab any type of element with the hand, the truth is that MIT researchers They believe that a robot could help us in this regard..

Now researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) have surprised by creating a robotic system to package all the items we buy at the supermarket.

So, through a series of sensors and soft robotic parts, The robot can collect all the food that passes through the checkout lineand includes them in the different bags without human intervention.

It does this by using touch sensors on the gripper pads, which simultaneously measure the hardness or softness of an item to create a delicateness score.

Then the most durable items are stored first, and the most delicate items are placed in a special compartment to be stored later.

This is a project that is still in the research stage, and from what can be seen in the video it is slow.

This raises many doubts as to whether this invention can be used specifically in a supermarket or a factory because it could make things endless.

Whatever the case, it is the first step towards not having to worry about storing food we have bought at the supermarket in the future.

Known how we work in Computerhoy.
