The rescue ship ‘Humanity 1’ of the German NGO SOS Humanity, has announced the rescue of 45 migrants adrift on a barge in danger of sinking in the waters of the central Mediterranean.

Two fishing boats and a plane from the NGO Sea Watch also participated in the operation, which alerted ‘Humanity’ to the existence of the wooden barge, which had run out of fuel.

According to the organization, no one on board was wearing a life jacket. A merchant ship secured the ship until the adults and children were aboard the rescue ship.
