March 11 () –
Renfe’s Board of Directors has approved the tender for 37.9 million euros for the supply of 149 wagons for its Freight area.
The investment is situated in the context of the government’s Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union, which will subsidize the acquisition for an amount of 14.5 million euros. The subsidy corresponds to the support for sustainable transport and is aligned, on the other hand, with the commitment that Renfe Mercancías has with its main clients for the improvement of productivity.
The tender, according to the company, will be carried out in two batches, one of 74 SGNSS-type 60-foot long container wagons that must be manufactured to have a minimum of 70 tons of net cargo for a maximum circulation speed of 100 km/ h. The type of bogies must be compatible for Iberian gauge axles and standard gauge axles and must be prepared for the use of Automatic Digital Coupling, which will contribute to maximizing load capacity in intermodal traffic.
The second batch will be made up of 75 SDGGMRSS type semi-trailer wagons, for a maximum load of 22.5 tons per axle and a maximum circulation speed of 100 km/h. The type of bogies of these wagons must also be compatible with Iberian gauge axles (1,668 mm) and standard gauge axles (1,435 mm).
These wagons, whose acquisition will expand and modernize the Renfe Mercancías fleet, will be used, according to forecasts, for the traffic that Renfe Mercancías carries out on rail highways, which will allow a more efficient, fast and safe rail transport service to be offered. merchandise and will contribute to improving the agility of intermodal transport with the road.
Bidders may submit an offer for one or both lots. The tender will allow Renfe Mercancías to have material that can be hauled by high-power electric locomotives that consume 100% renewable energy that the company is acquiring and which is intended to boost freight transport and rail highways.
