Renfe has registered 171,400 more travelers on its High Speed and Long Distance services during this Christmas, in the period from December 20 to January 7, which means 11% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In total, 1.7 million travelers used AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity and AVE Internacional trains on their trips, according to Renfe in a statement.
By corridors, the greatest increase in travelers was registered in the North, which links Galicia, Castilla y León and Asturias with Madrid, with 362,500 travelers, almost 100,000 more (37.6% more) than in the Christmas holidays of the previous year.
But the corridor most used by travelers has been the South, with almost 426,000 travelers, and a growth of 17.7% compared to Christmas 2023-2024, registering 64,000 more travelers, which places it as the second corridor that the more it grows. For its part, the Levante Corridor that connects Valencia, Castellón, Alicante and Murcia with Madrid, increased its number of travelers by 23,000, 9.1% more.
For these holidays, Renfe offered nearly 2 million seats on nearly 5,800 AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity and AVE Internacional trains for travel during the Christmas holidays, from December 20 to January 7. This represented an increase of 186,000 places, 10.3% more, compared to the same period of the previous year.
NEW PET FRIENDLY DESTINATIONS
To meet the high demand of travelers during these holidays and in response to the needs of families with pets, Renfe expanded the number of routes and destinations for traveling with dogs of up to 40 kilos on a selection of AVE trains.
Renfe has included the new Madrid-Seville route to the rest of the existing routes: Madrid-Málaga, Madrid-Granda, Madrid-Alicante and Madrid-Valencia. On the Madrid-Barcelona line, to the direct and semi-direct AVE stops in Zaragoza, another stop is added in Lleida Pirineus and Camp de Tarragona, and Girona and Figueres Vilafant are incorporated as new Pet Friendly destinations.
