Google, Qualcomm and Groupe Renault take their collaborative relationship a step further by announcing the “vehicle of the future” defined by an advanced software platform.
Groupe Renault and Google today announced an extension of their four-year partnership, to create what they have called “the vehicle of tomorrow”. They seek to include an advanced software platform for vehicles they want to develop in the future.
This “software-defined vehicle” (SDV) will be based on Google’s Android Automotive operating system and will send the data to the company’s cloud servers for processingas announced by the companies.
Let’s go back to 2018 when the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and Google announced their collaboration, with the aim of adopting this native Google car operating system, which offers Assistant, Maps and Play Store integrated into its vehicles.
This time it is only between Renault and Google who will collaborate in the creation of “Digital double”, a virtual double of the vehicle, which will feature the most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning capabilities for easier integration of services in the real vehicle and the creation of new services on board (Car service) and external.
The Renault Group becomes an off-road company with Google Cloud
Both companies already assure that this new intelligent vehicle will bring together the best of the automotive and digital worldbuilding on the current Android Automotive operating system and Google Cloud technology to enable new on-demand services and continuous updates.
And it is that, the Renault Group wants to go further and plans to monitor and analyze vehicle usage to better understand customer needsas well as to obtain better and personalized services according to your requirements.
Imagine what they might be able to create if we bring together the millions of data collected daily and the supply chain data stored and analyzed in the Google cloud.

Among the personalized experiences, we find some such as the monitoring of driving behaviors and the most frequent destinations, such as electric vehicle charging stations, among many others and new ones to come.
This collaboration will allow Renault reduce costs, increase efficiency, flexibility and speed of development of new vehiclesthus also increasing the value for users, all thanks to this new step in collaboration with Google.
Groupe Renault will also collaborate with Qualcomm to strengthen these Software Defined Vehicles (SDV)
Not only has it signed an agreement with Google to strengthen this system, Qualcomm also enters the equation and will invest in Renault’s electrical and software company Ampere with vehicles powered by the supplier’s Snapdragon to “Deliver seamless connectivity and smart in-car experiences to your drivers and passengers”.

“We are delighted that our Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions will play a critical role in ushering in their next generation of ‘Software Defined Vehicles’ and help accelerate the digital transformation of the automobile,” said Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated.
By 2030, Ampere expects to have a range of six electric vehicles for sale. Four of them have already been revealed: the Renault 5 Electric, the Renault 4 Electric, the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric and the Renault Scénic Electric.
With all this on the table, Ampere will launch the first “SDV” of the Renault Group in 2026which it will develop in collaboration with its software partner Qualcomm Technologies and with Google.
