Regional webinar “Small-scale mining and its role in the energy transition”

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Annual Conference of Mining Ministries of the Americas (CAMMA) and the Ministry of Mining of Chile will hold the regional webinar “Small-scale mining and its role in the energy transition” on August 8, 2024, starting at 10 a.m. in Chile.

The event aims to understand the state of the economic, productive, environmental and institutional dimensions of small-scale mining in the region and to exchange experiences and good practices on its role in the provision of critical minerals for the energy transition. It also seeks to compile policy guidelines and recommendations for priority actions for small-scale mining that can feed into the following international initiatives of the United Nations: the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on Critical Minerals for the Energy Transition and the UN Working Group on the Transformation of Extractive Industries for Sustainable Development.

The event is aimed at members of civil society, representatives of public and private companies, policy makers in extraction, processing, value chain promotion and management activities of small-scale mining, and those interested in the challenges and issues of small-scale mining for the energy transition.
