Regional Energy Transition Dialogues for Latin America and the Caribbean

The meeting will consist of two large segments:

The Policy Dialogue on “Sustainable and Inclusive Energy Transition in Latin America and the Caribbean” will take place on November 26 and 27, 2024. This meeting will also be the kick-off meeting of the “Sustainable Energy Transition” project and Inclusive for Latin America and the Caribbean” (2024-2028).

The project aims to contribute to the generation of knowledge and the strengthening of technical, operational, political and prospective capacities to design and apply policies, strategies and plans that accelerate the energy transition in the countries of the region.

In addition, it offers a space for dialogue, meetings, workshops and regional training, the formation of a regional network of energy experts and professionals, and the creation of a regional observatory to accelerate the energy transition. The results of the project are expected to contribute to the development of both national and regional agendas to advance towards the energy transition in LAC.

The event will bring together ministers and vice ministers of Energy from the region, along with representatives of international agencies, to discuss the challenges and opportunities to advance a regional energy transition agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the second segment, the VII Plenary Meeting of the Regional Forum of Energy Planners (FOREPLEN) will be held, which will be held on November 28 and 29. This event will focus its discussion on different technical aspects of long-term energy planning as a key tool to guide the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.

FOREPLEN, promoted by ECLAC in collaboration with the GET.Transform Program of the European Union, acts as a platform for technical dialogue between the countries of the region. During the period 2024-2026, FOREPLEN will continue to facilitate meetings to exchange methodologies, case studies and good practices, in order to strengthen energy planning capabilities. Transition challenges include resilient energy planning, participatory planning processes, the integration of renewable energy, new storage technologies, electromobility, hydrogen and network digitalization.

The VII Meeting of the Forum will bring together directors of energy planning from the region and representatives of international agencies, with the aim of discussing specific lines of action and sharing experiences in resilient planning.
