Reddit will lose one of its accessibility features due to the API change

Reddit is about to become a less accessible placeand it is that although the change of the Reddit API means that a multitude of applications stop working -including the large number of applications that are better than the official Reddit one- This has led to another of the great forgotten by some technology companies, and that is accessibility.

At the time we explained that Reddit would make an exception for applications designed with accessibility in mind, but moderators of accessibility-focused subreddits find that there is no exception for themso that r/TranscribersOfReddit will shut down on June 30.

This subreddit was in charge of making transcriptions in the absence of an alternative text field on Reddit, so with its disappearance, accessibility-focused apps—with free API access—will not have access to alt-text descriptions of images on Reddit because this transcription system requires paid access to the API.

This comes alongside the fact that the CEO of Reddit is forcing closed communities open in protest under threats and duress, something that is definitely driving users and moderators off the platform, leaving empty communities behind.
