Another example of this is the agreement that the firm reached with the German publisher Axel Springer, responsible for media such as Politico and Business Insider, as well as with the Associated Press agency, to have access to its articles.
Reddit’s value increases thanks to AI
Although OpenAI, Google, Perplexity or Anthropic are some of the companies that are working on the development of applications for AI, there are others behind the scenes that are also benefiting from this new wave, such as Nvidia (in charge of creating the chips that power technology) or Reddit itself, which has also increased its value significantly.
In March it made its debut on the New York Stock Exchange with an unbeatable debut, as its 22 million shares rose 48% in the first hours of trading to reach a value of 9,000 million dollars.
This figure was surprising, because despite being 18 years old, it only had 73 million users until last year, something that does not compare with the hundreds of millions reached by other platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram or X.
Although the value of the agreement between Reddit and OpenAI was not disclosed, other alliances have given clues in this regard, since precisely in the process to present their Initial Public Offering it was revealed that data licenses with technology companies exceed the 200 million dollars.
“It’s an area where we see opportunity,” Jennifer Wong, Reddit’s chief operating officer, told Bloomberg when asked about the potential of original human ideas and thoughts for AI value. “If we think about it, when a new car comes out, who is going to review it? A real family of six can tell you what it’s like to drive that car. “That will always be valuable.”
