It seems that hackers have done their thing on Redditand after verifying that a “security accident” has really occurred, with one of its employees falling for a phishing attack and raising the alarm as soon as he realized it. This was key, because by notifying instantly, the Reddit security team was able to immediately get to work.
Thanks to that, Reddit is confident that user passwords are safeas well as their user accounts, since the hackers have only gained access to some internal documents, platform code, and secondary systems. Likewise, Reddit ensures that none of the production systems have been affected.
In any case, taking into account how this attack itself started, the company recommends to its users the use of two-factor authentication, something that would protect us in cases of phishing attacks as a username and password are not enough to log in.
A two-factor authentication system is not infallible, especially if the implementation is not goodbut it is a very good line of defense for most attacks.
