Today the start of the subreddit strike on Reddit took place, where more than 6,000 subreddits have closed their doors in protest of the changes that will soon be implemented in relation to the use of the site’s API, where applications like Apollo will have to close because these costs can exceed 20 million dollars a year.
However, it seems that something else has happened on Reddit, be it an attack, an overload of the Reddit servers due to the archiving efforts that are happening globally, or just a random crash that happened the same day as this eventbecause if we access Reddit, we will see that the posts do not load.
Be that as it may, despite the fact that there are “only” more than 6,000 subreddits that have closed, when the website is in this situation, none of the messages can be seen, so for practical purposes Reddit is closed or down, as we prefer to say it, until further notice.
It is expected that between the 13th and 14th a large part of the subreddits will reopen, but others have explained that the closure will be indefinite, some are at risk of being shut down permanently if API changes are carried out.
