Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Reveals PC Requirements and Announces DirectStorage 1.2 Support

Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software have revealed the requirements PC players will need to meet if they want to run Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 26. As is customary for PlayStation Studios PC games, the requirements are accompanied by the expected performance, including frame rate, resolution, and graphics settings. It has also been confirmed that the title will have support for multiple technologies (DLSS, FSR, XeSS…) and will be one of the first, if not the first, to use DirectStorage 1.2, Microsoft’s technology to speed up game loading.

When Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart arrived on PlayStation 5 in June 2021, it was highlighted that the game had been designed with the high loading speed of the console’s SSD drive in mind. However, the minimum requirements for PC allow mechanical storage in exchange for playing at 720p, 30 FPS and with low-quality graphics. This is possibly explained by the implementation of DirectStorage 1.2, a technology developed to take full advantage of the speed of NVMe PCIe SSDs, but which is also compatible with SATA SSDs and even traditional HDDs.

One of the benefits of DirectStorage is that it allows you to use the GPU for data decompression. Normally this task is done by the CPU, but due to the amount of information that must be managed, the graphics card is more effective. In addition, in this way the processor is freed to use its resources in other tasks. In this way a much faster texture transmission is achieved even at the highest graphics settings.

The requirements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PC appeared in the game listing on Steam, but for some reason the post was removed. However, before the information was removed someone managed to copy it. Thanks to this, we already have available the game requirements and the expected performance for each configuration.
