Follow live the latest news on Iran's attack on Israel
He warns that a response would cause Israel and its allies to “discover a hidden power against which they could do nothing.”
April 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, stressed this Wednesday that Tehran's attacks against Israeli territory in punishment for the recent bombing of the Iranian Consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, “have collapsed the false hegemony of the Zionist regime” in the region. “.
“Today, not only we, but the people of the region and the world, are aware of the authority of the Iranian Armed Forces. The world has seen that after the 'Al Aqsa Flood' operation — in reference the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)–, the 'True Promise' has overthrown the false hegemony of the Zionist regime,” he said,
“The Revolutionary Guard and the Army punished the Zionist regime with a rational, wise, calculated and precise action,” he said, before stating that “it was a statement to the entire world,” and “especially to the Americans and other allies of the Zionist regime”, that “the great nation of Iran is prepared and that the Armed Forces have the skills, equipment, faith and power” to act.
Thus, he insisted that the 'True Promise' operation was “limited.” “If this operation had been designed to be exhaustive and extensive, those who support the Zionist regime would have seen that there was nothing left of it,” he said, before warning that a response by Israel would cause “the Zionist regime and those who support him discover a hidden power against which they could do nothing”.
“This operation was planned to be a limited action with the objective of punishing and focusing on the centers from which actions against Iran's interests were carried out,” he stated, while saying that Israel has suffered ” a strategic failure” in the region, according to statements published by the Iranian Presidency through its website.
“The recent defeat of the Zionist regime before the axis of resistance in the region, in addition to its military, intelligence and security defeat, has meant a strategic failure,” he argued. In this sense, he has stressed that “the normalization process between this false regime and other Islamic countries has completely failed and the countries that sought to normalize relations with this cruel and criminal regime are today ashamed before their people.”
Raisi has thus made reference to the so-called 'Abraham Accords', signed in 2020 by Israel with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Morocco to normalize relations. Likewise, Saudi Arabia stated in 2023 that it was considering this option, although with the prior condition of recognition of the Palestinian State.
“Today, hatred towards the United States and the Zionist regime worldwide is greater than ever and support for the resistance against the regime's oppression has also increased, which is a victory for the Islamic resistance discourse, the Iranian Armed Forces and the Iranian nation, as a banner against the system of domination,” he concluded.
