The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has affirmed this Tuesday that the authorities “will have no mercy” with the “enemies”, among whom he has cited the participants in the anti-government demonstrations that have shaken the country since September after the death in custody of Mahsa Amini.
“The nation’s arms are open to those who were deceived, but it will show no mercy to traitors,” he said, before adding that the situation in the country is “a war between factions.”
It has also warned that “enemies have mobilized their forces during the riots”, including “defenders of the monarchy and terrorists from the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran (PMOI)”, declared a terrorist group by Tehran.
“The enemies have used all their power to prevent Iran’s progress, but today they admit that all their pressures have failed. The enemy is facing today a nation that has decided to progress,” he said, according to the agency. Iranian news Mehr.
“We have learned from the martyrs to live with hope,” he pointed out, while stressing that “the country has made great progress in all fields, which explains the enemy’s anger.” “All the efforts of the enemy against the Islamic Republic have failed in a shameful way,” he concluded.
Iranian authorities have so far executed two people convicted for their role in the mobilizations, while several thousand have been detained. Among them there are more than 20 who face capital punishment, according to a report published on December 10 by the local newspaper ‘Etemad’.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard recently confirmed that more than 300 people have died since the start of the protests, which was the first official balance since the start of the mobilizations over the death of Amini, a member of the Iranian Kurdish minority. The figure is lower than that provided by the NGO Iran Human Rights, which points to more than 400 deaths due to the repression by the security forces.
