Aug. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The ‘Iron Dome’ system was activated this Friday after sounding the alarms in Yavne, Ashkelon and other southern Israeli cities, as well as within the Gaza Strip, after the Israeli authorities announced a military operation against Islamic Jihad in area.
At the moment, there is no immediate confirmation from the Israel Defense Forces on how many rockets have been launched from the Gaza Strip and if they have been intercepted, according to the daily ‘Haaretz’.
For their part, Israeli warplanes have attacked new points in the Gaza Strip, while the anti-aircraft alarm has also sounded, as reported by ‘The Times of Gaza’ on its official Twitter profile.
“IDF planes recently attacked two weapons storage warehouses and another rocket launching post of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization,” Israeli security forces said on their official Twitter profile.
Given the increase in tensions, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council has indicated, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’, that “Israel has the right to protect itself.” In addition, he has urged the parties “to calm” and has indicated that Washington is “monitoring” the situation.
