( Spanish) — The director of Radio Caracas Radio (RCR), Jaime Nestares, confirmed to his decision to cease operations on the digital platforms that he used for the last four years to broadcast his programming.
RCR, with almost 93 years on the air, had ceased its radio broadcasts in 2019 by order of the National Telecommunications Commission, Conatel. The official body argued at that time that the concession granted to operate in the Venezuelan radio spectrum had expired.
Nestares told that they are working to find a more efficient alternative in communication and that in the next few hours they will announce their new steps to follow.
In this sense, he clarified that the announcement does not imply a goodbye but a see you soon.
RCR began its broadcasts on December 11, 1930 and in recent years had maintained a line critical of the efforts of the late President Hugo Chávez and the current president Nicolás Maduro.
One of the best-known announcers of that radio station, Pedro García Otero, thanked the station for the opportunity while expressing his regret over the announcement on Twitter. “Today the soul hurts. Close my house” said Otero who predicted that the radio “will return, stronger, when there is democracy”.
