Philippine radio host Cresenciano Aldovino Bunduquin was shot to death this Wednesday in the Philippine city of Calapán, in the province of Oriental Mindoro.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed the death of Bunduquin, 50, when he was attacked in front of a store by armed men on a motorcycle. The reporter has been taken to the nearest hospital, where he has been pronounced dead.
Police agents, in statements to ‘Rappler’, have indicated that one of the suspects has died during the chase, while the authorities continue to locate the second person, who fled the scene after committing the crime.
“The PNP will establish a Special Investigative Working Group to handle the investigation. This will pave the way for a deeper investigation to speed up the collection of evidence and testimony,” said Police communications chief Redrico Maranan.
“We are maximizing our efforts to obtain more evidence and testimony to shed light on this incident and facilitate the immediate arrest of the perpetrators,” Maranan added, according to the news portal GMA News.
However, the authorities have not yet linked his profession to the reason for his death. “Although his work as a representative of the media involves a critical debate, at this time we cannot conclude that the motive is related to the work despite the fact that we are exploring all the hypotheses,” he explained.
“We assure our colleagues in the media that the Police give priority to the safety of those who work in the sector,” he said.
