Qatar regrets that there have been no talks for a ceasefire in Gaza for weeks

BRUSSELS Oct. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al Thani, regretted this Wednesday the lack of will to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza, after talks with Israel and Hamas have ceased in recent weeks.

“Unfortunately we see how efforts have been complicated in recent weeks. For three or four weeks there have been no conversations of any kind. We move in the same circle with silence from all parties,” he said at a press conference from Brussels after the summit of EU and Gulf leaders.

Abdulrahman al Thani has insisted that both sides are needed to reach an agreement that allows for a ceasefire and the release of hostages taken by Hamas. “If you have one of the parties that is not interested in an agreement it cannot be reached,” he said.

In this sense, he has reiterated that the extension of the conflict to Lebanon “adds to the complication” for the negotiations to reach a successful conclusion.

Qatar is mediating with the United States and Egypt for a ceasefire in Gaza following the military offensive unleashed by Israel following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.

Also far away is the request from the United States and France for a “temporary” 21-day truce between Israel and Hezbollah in view of “a diplomatic agreement” to “avoid further escalation on both sides of the border. This proposal was soon relegated. after the offensive launched by Tel Aviv against the Shiite militia in Lebanon, including bombings on Beirut.
