Qatar and Egypt have announced that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has sent a response to mediators regarding the ceasefire proposal presented by US President Joe Biden for the Gaza Strip.

“The State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt announce that they have received today a response from Hamas and the Palestinian factions regarding the recent proposed ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners and detainees,” the Foreign Ministry said. Qatari in a statement.

Likewise, they have highlighted that the “joint mediation efforts with the United States will continue until an agreement is reached.” “The mediators will review the response and coordinate with interested parties on next steps,” she concluded.

The same statement has also been published by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad have reported that their response prioritizes the interests of the Palestinian people and the need to “completely” stop the ongoing aggression against Gaza, according to the newspaper ‘Filistin’, related to the Islamist group.

Likewise, the two militias have expressed in a statement the willingness of the Palestinian delegation to “negotiate positively” to reach an agreement to end hostilities in the Palestinian enclave.

A senior Hamas official, Osama Hamdan, had previously assured that “the main points” of the resolution approved by the United Nations Security Council in support of the ceasefire plan presented by Biden are “positive.”

Hamas already stated late on Monday that it positively welcomed the UN Security Council resolution and asked to negotiate with Israel the principles included in the text, approved by 14 favorable votes and the abstention of Russia.

The plan is divided into three phases, in which the first proposes the exchange of hostages for prisoners and a short-term ceasefire. The second provides for a “permanent cessation of hostilities” and the complete withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Gaza. The third and final phase includes a multi-year reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip.
