This week around the world was marked by four Russian-occupied Ukrainian regions holding referendums approving their incorporation into the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, in Latin America, Colombia and Venezuela have reopened their borders, which will allow them to restore trade and cross-border life.
Many events take place in a week in the world, which is why France 24 created this space to talk, debate and analyze with journalists, editorialists and analysts on the issues that have focused the attention of the media during the last seven days.
Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson, regions occupied by Russia, held referendums in which they approved their incorporation into the Russian Federation. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree incorporating these regions. The whole world watches as Ukraine continues to lose territory and criticism and rejection rain down on the Kremlin.
This week in Latin America the protagonists were Colombia and Venezuela, which took another step in the normalization of their relations. In an informal and belated act, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and representatives of the Government of Venezuela shook hands and opened the border that will allow the reestablishment of commercial exchange and cross-border life.
In addition, this week France 24 celebrated five years of broadcasting for all of Latin America from the newsroom in Bogotá. As part of this celebration, we discussed the future of television as a news medium and analyzed international news coverage. We tackled all these topics with the help of our guests:
