Russian President Vladimir Putin attended this Friday the funeral of Murtaza Rajimov, Prime Minister of the Bashkortostan region, who died on Wednesday at the age of 88.

After his arrival in the Russian city of Ufa, Putin went to the Bashkortostan State Hall, where a farewell ceremony was held, according to information from the TASS news agency.

Putin has placed a bouquet of roses next to one of the pedestals and has approached the coffin, where he has remained silent for several minutes. Finally, he has bowed for a few seconds before leaving the room.

Rajimov died on January 11 after suffering a long illness, but he led the region for more than two decades. In addition, he presided over the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic until 1993.
