Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, praised bilateral relations between the two countries on Tuesday and highlighted cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Both have met in Tehran, the Iranian capital, where they have emphasized that relations “advance at a good pace”, according to information from the Kremlin collected by Russian news agencies.
Putin has pointed out that Russia and Iran “are strengthening their cooperation on international security”, which contributes “significantly to resolving the Syrian crisis”.
For his part, Raisi has said he hopes that the Russian leader’s visit will serve to initiate “a decisive stage in the development of relations between the two countries, as well as greater regional and international cooperation.” In addition, he has emphasized that the cooperation between the parties has facilitated greater security in the region, according to information from the Mehr news agency.
Putin is also scheduled to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as part of his visit to the country, which coincides with that of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
