The idea of creating a card game occurred to Venezuelan Luis Losacco during a night out with his friends. From the beginning he was clear that he did not want it to be a simple game. His intention was to dedicate it to Venezuela for the entertainment of people who, like him, had to emigrate. This is how “Mete la Mano” was born.
“I was constantly looking for ideas of independence, of being able to achieve something that was mine and well, in an almost magical way on a game night with friends I said: ‘Why not do something like that but dedicated and motivated in Venezuela?’ Losacco explained to the Voice of America.
“That’s how the idea of making the game came about,” he recalled.
The name to identify his game – he explained – responds to “the action” itself of putting his hand in during the play.
Losacco, who graduated as a publicist in his native country, confesses that the process of creating the game was simple. To carry it out, he relied on family and friends to develop the design, the image, the cards and even manufacture it.
“The most beautiful thing about creation is that I was able to know that I can count on people close to me. My nephew helped me with the design, my cousin helped me with the photos, some friends helped me with the editing and creation of the commercial, my cousins were the models for the commercial. In other words, I have many close people who have helped me and who have been part of the process. So that is also something that I rescue and value a lot,” she mentions.
Put Your Hand in: a game by and for Venezuelans
The instructions for playing “Mete la Mano” are simple. The Venezuelan details that it is a game in which you must make a sequence on the back of the cards, which are identified with typical Venezuelan foods and drinks, such as arepa, empanada and chicha (creamy, sweet rice-based drink). and milk).
“The letters are delivered with the back so that people do not know what type of letter is coming. The moment the card you are throwing coincides with what you are saying, everyone puts their hand in and whoever puts it last takes the deck of cards that is inside on the table,” he explains.
He adds that the purpose of the game is to get rid of cards to exit the round of games and find out who is the loser, not the winner.
Losacco affirms that, due to its characteristics, the game is aimed at Venezuelans, especially those who need moments of joy despite the circumstances. He confesses that he feels happy to have created a game that allows other people to get together and have a good time.
“This game is going to give us the opportunity to get together at a table and laugh and have a good time for a long time, so that makes me feel very good, knowing that I am giving people the opportunity to have a good time.” Through the game that makes me very happy.”
The game “Mete la Mano” was officially presented on April 30, in the city of Miami, United States. The Venezuelan comments that even before that, people’s receptivity had already been positive and they had asked him for the game to reach several countries.
“People have received it with great enthusiasm and great curiosity. They write to me from many places where Venezuelans are asking for the game to arrive at their place or if it will be there soon, that motivates me and fills me with a lot of emotion.”
The game is currently on sale through the TikTok Shop and the Etsy platform. Losacco said that he is working to make it also available on Amazon and to get it to Venezuela. The latter is one of the goals he is most excited to achieve.
Expand distribution
On the day of the presentation of “Mete la Mano”, Losacco celebrated the eighth year of life as a migrant in the United States. As a publicist, the Venezuelan did not manage to pursue his career in his country, but he is doing so now thanks to his own game. “I am also an actor, but as an actor the jobs are seasonal. For a long time I was looking for something that was mine and something that I could dream of and grow big with. I think the time has come, thanks to “Mete la Mano”, he says.
Losacco is focused on promoting its card game. For this reason, it is working on its distribution to more countries, so that Venezuelans have access to it wherever they are.
“So far that’s the focus right now. I don’t know what will happen next, but I’m sure I will continue working and doing cool things so that once again it is claimed that Venezuelans are not only negative news. And well, I think that’s the focus, I tell you again, is to make people laugh and have a great time. But for now, until now it will be with “Mete la Mano”, let’s see what will happen next,” she concludes.
