PUBG Creators Work on New Game Based on Korean Fantasy Novel

Thanks to PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), the South Korean company KRAFTON earned a prestigious place in the video game industry. Although the company continues to rely primarily on the success of PUBGthe truth is that you are expanding your proposal with several projects (such as The Callisto Protocol) and one more is on the way and promises to be a world-class franchise.

Krafton has just announced that he is preparing a new game. Although it does not have a title yet, it has already been confirmed that it will be based on the Korean fantasy novel published in 2003. The Bird That Drinks Tears (The bird that drinks tears), created by the famous writer Lee Yeongdo, who is considered the father of this genre. In addition, KRAFTON indicates that it is a world-class project.

What is it about The Birds That Drinks Tears?

The Bird That Drinks Tears is a novel that is made up of 4 volumes that tells a story between 4 races: the humans, the Rekkon, the Tokebi and the Nhaga.

After a massive war that occurred long ago, the Nhaga, a cold race of reptiles, take over the southern sector of the world and since then they do not interact with the other races. Something that stands out about this breed is that, although they cannot tolerate the cold, they have an immortal body that they achieve by removing their heart, apart from the fact that they have a unique non-sound communication system called Neam. Some time later, thanks to a collaborator of the race, it is discovered that they are planning something terrifying.

The other 3 tribes know of these plans and join together to send a rescue squad consisting of 1 explorer, 1 mage and 1 hunter to the southern jungles to get the collaborator out of there.

The Rekkon are a race of large, anthropomorphic birds noted for their physical strength and fighting skills. From this race will come the hunter of the squad.

The mage was chosen from the Tokebi race, which is inspired by the goblin from Korean folklore. Although they are not aggressive, they are skilled with fire and do not fear death, knowing that they will be reborn in eternal life as Orusin.

The third member, who will act as a scout, is from the humans, who are the weakest, but live in groups and outnumber the other tribes, in addition to having great ambition for power and domination.

Precisely the protagonist of the adventure will be the human, called Kagan, who has survived eating Nhaga in the domains of this tribe, in which he has remained after an incident that occurred in the past.

KRAFTON’s new game promises to be world-class

Unlike Western fantasy novels, The Bird That Drinks Tears uses characters based on Asian myths and perhaps this may be the main attraction for Western audiences, since the art of the project allows us to take a look at the great conceptual designs of the adventure.

Although the game is still in development, we were already able to take a look at the game’s concept art that illustrates the game’s visual identity and tone. Talent from Hollywood participates in the project, precisely Iain McCaig, a conceptual artist who has worked on starwars, Harry Potter, terminator Y avengers. This artist was in charge of the illustrations and holds the position of design director.

It is not yet known how long it will take for this project to be ready, so we will have to wait. It is also not known if this game will come to consoles, PC or mobile. It is known that the title has been in development for at least 2 years and it has just been confirmed that it has already entered an active stage and that KRAFTON is looking for talent around the world for the project, which already has official website.
