March 31 (Portlatic/EP) –
PlayStation’s second-generation virtual reality headset (PS VR2) is not meeting Sony’s expectations in its first month since launch, whose sales would be below 300,000 units.
Sony released the new VR headset on February 22, accompanied by a catalog of more than 40 games including Horizon: Call of the Mountain, No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village. His big bet are advanced features that update it with respect to its predecessor and that place it as one of the gateways to the metaverse.
Specifically, PS VR2 allows you to interact in a more immersive way with the PS5 console -in fact, it requires it for use-, thanks to three-dimensional audio, to eye tracking and the haptic feedbackand plays a 4K image more realistic and fluid.
PS VR took eight months to reach one million units. Since its launch in 2016, this first generation has sold around five million headsets. Sony is more ambitious with the new proposal, since I expected to have ready two million units between September 2022 and March of this year.
However, in its first month on the market, PS VR2 It has barely sold 270,000 units, according to reports from Bloombergwhich cites estimates from analysis firm IDC.
PS VR2 has a price of 599.99 eurosto which must be added another 500 euros for the PS5 video console (the price varies depending on the model and different offers) and that of the games.
Its main competitor, Goal Quest 2 (Fcebook parent), costs about 450 euros, has a wide catalog of games and virtual applications and does not require other ‘hardware’ to work. This company has sold close to 20 million units of all its helmets (Quest, Quest 2 and Quest Pro), according to a recent report collected by The Verge.
