Protesters march in Hong Kong in the first authorized march in three years

March 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Several people have marched this Sunday in the streets of Hong Kong the first authorized march in three years, despite the strict measures of police regulations.

Residents of Tseung Kwan O City, one of Hong Kong’s new cities built mainly on reclaimed land, have marched to protect the ocean.

Among the demands are the denunciation of the construction of “unpleasant” facilities, since they consider that it is about contradictory environmental policies.

The protesters, who wore visible identification, walked the streets along a cordoned-off route under the watchful eye of dozens of security agents. The authorities have limited the march to a hundred people, although more than 300 had applied to join.

In addition, the Police have warned of the risks of “criminals” infiltrating the event to instigate violence, as reported by the newspaper ‘South China Morning Post’.

This protest was the first since 2020 against a government policy and comes after all COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
