Protesters in Sarajevo call for the resignation of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina

BELGRADE, 31 March. (DPA/EP) –

Hundreds of people have demonstrated this Friday in Sarajevo to demand the resignation of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, for promoting ethnic division in a demonstration called by various civil organizations.

The demonstration, called in front of Schmidt’s office in Sarajevo, has passed normally, with numerous protesters carrying signs with slogans such as ‘Schmidt go away’, the Klix news portal has reported.

Christian Schmidt, a German national, heads the Office of the High Representative (OHR) and has intervened in the Bosnian constitutional order in recent months, strengthening the position of Croatian nationalists.

The High Representative, a former German Agriculture Minister of the conservative Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU), has held the position since August 2021. He is close to the conservative government in Zagreb, which supports Croat nationalists in Bosnia.
