July 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The protesters who peacefully took over this Saturday the Presidential House, the official residence of the President of Sri Lanka, have handed over 17.8 million Sri Lankan rupees (about 48,500 euros) to the Police, which were found in the building.

The protesters have delivered this sum of money to the Central Police Station in Colombo, according to the Sri Lankan news portal NewsFirst.

The amount has been transferred to the Barrio del Fuerte police station, where the official residence of the president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who announced on Saturday that he would resign next Wednesday, is located. The courts will be informed of the details of the finding on Monday.

The revolution that culminated this Saturday with the resignation of Rajapaksa has been characterized by the extreme civility of the protest and even images of protesters sweeping or washing dishes in the presidential residence have been seen.

Festive images of protesters in the swimming pool of Rajapaksa’s residence, relaxing in the president’s bed or calmly checking his mobile on one of the sofas in the Presidential House, have also emerged.
