Prosecutors are ending Hunter Biden's weapons trial; two more witnesses are expected

Federal prosecutors are wrapping up their gun case against Hunter Biden, and two more witnesses are expected to appear Friday in their effort to show jurors that the president’s son lied on a required gun purchase form when he said he was not “an illegal drug user or addict.”

Prosecutors still planned to call a drug expert and an FBI chemist, ending a week that has largely been devoted to highlighting the seriousness of his drug problem through highly personal and, at times, testimonies. rugged

Jurors heard from his ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend who testified about his habitual crack use and her failed efforts to help him detox. They saw images of the president’s son bare-chested and disheveled in a dirty room, and half-naked holding crack pipes, and they watched a video of him weighing crack cocaine on a scale.

Prosecutors say the evidence is necessary to show that Hunter, 54, was in the throes of addiction when he purchased the gun and therefore lied when he checked “no” on the form. His attorney, Abbe Lowell, has argued that Hunter did not consider himself an “addict” when he purchased the gun and that he did not intend to deceive anyone.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden worked to maintain the line between president and father, telling ABC News in an interview that he would accept the jury’s verdict and rule out a pardon for his son. Earlier this week, he released a statement saying, “I’m the president, but I’m also a father. Jill and I love our son and are so proud of the man he is today.”

Biden is in France this week for D-Day anniversary events. First lady Jill Biden, who attended court most of the week, flew in from France on Thursday and was expected to be at the trial again on Friday before return to France for a state dinner.
