Promoting regional collaboration to strengthen statistical capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean

Within the framework of the twenty-third meeting of the Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC, statistical representatives of the United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes that make up the Statistics and Data Group of the United Nations Regional Collaboration Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (RCP-LAC), met at the ECLAC premises in Santiago, Chile on August 28, 2024.

The specialists took advantage of this opportunity to promote a meeting between the members present at the Conference, facilitating contact with the new members of the group, reviewing current activities, and highlighting the importance of working together to achieve the necessary synergies to support Member States in strengthening their statistical capacities for the production, dissemination and use of the Sustainable Development Goals indicators and the associated national statistical operations.

Participants highlighted the importance of maintaining constant and sustained communication to consolidate the community of regional statisticians in Latin America and the Caribbean, establishing the necessary mechanisms to link global, regional and national processes in this area.

The agencies present on this occasion were: the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
