You may remember that in 2020 PlatinumGames announced Project GG, his new ambitious game that would mark a new era for the studio, as it would be the first project that he would not only develop, but also publish with his own funds. Since then, we have not seen more of the title, but today PlatinumGames talked about it and also revealed that it is working on another ambitious project.
PlatinumGames gave something to talk about yesterday when it reported that it had hired Nintendo veteran Takao Yamane as its new vice president. This manager along with the general director Atsushi Imaba and the creative Hideki Kamiya appeared in an interview with Famitsu to talk about their current projects.
What was most striking is that it was revealed that PlatinumGames, in addition to working on Project GG, is creating a whole new franchise. Due to the project’s prematureness, not many details were revealed, but it was anticipated that it would be a “large-scale” game, apart from the fact that it was anticipated that the studio would at some point need to be expanded enough to house 1000 employees (via Wccftech).

Project GG will be more ambitious and will arrive later than expected
On the other hand, PlatinumGames took the opportunity to talk about Project GGhis new game of kaijus and humans that can become huge.
In the interview it was revealed that thanks to the investment he received from Tencent in 2020, Project GG it expanded; Before, the game was going to be just an action game, but with the support of the Chinese company and the ideas of the team, Project GG it will be more than that, although he made it clear that it will have a key mechanic, in the style of the Unite Morph Ball in The Wonderful 101 or the Witch Time in Bayonetta.
“The way we expanded from there had a lot to do with Inaba’s big ambitions. Instead of creating a single game, Inaba’s approach was to say, ‘This is the kind of game PlatinumGames is going to make from now on. onwards'”, said Kamiya, who confessed that he did not expect the project to take this course.
In case you missed it: PlatinumGames has plans to release 9 arcade games, will release Bayonetta 3 this year, and works at Project GG and the new ambitious IP, not counting the game as a service BABYLON’S FALLwhich debuted a few months ago and was not well received.
when will it debut Project GG or will we see more of him?
It was decided that Project GG It was going to be a modest proposal at first, but with the investment from Tencent, something more ambitious was chosen. However, the original premise of Project GG was not affected, as the concept of the game lent itself to either being small or large (via Video Games Chronicle).
PlatinumGames wants to make sure the quality is as high as possible to such an extent that they are willing to delay it if required. It is important to mention that it does not yet have a public release date; however, it was hinted that it was not that far from its premiere, not as soon as 1 year after the announcement (as of February 2021), although not as far as 3 years (February 2023). But apparently as it became more ambitious, the internal launch plans also changed.
Unfortunately, there were no further details of Project GGYamane anticipated that we could see the game in June 2023, although he did not reveal if at E3 2023 or Summer Game Fest 2023, but he did mention that it would appear in Los Angeles, so there could well be a station to test the game on the floor of exhibits.
