Pro-government protesters take to the streets to show their rejection of the protests in Iran

Sep. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thousands of protesters in favor of the Iranian government have taken to the streets this Friday to show their rejection of the violence and riots after the death in police facilities of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old girl who was arrested for wearing the veil wrong.

After Friday prayer, a group of faithful from the capital, Tehran, as well as from many other provinces, such as in Kerman or Khuzestan, have marched in protest against the recent riots, chanting slogans such as “Death to the United States” or “Death to to Israel,” according to the Mehr news agency.

The protesters have condemned the “disruptive measures of a few mercenaries and deluded individuals” who have insulted the Koran, set fire to mosques as well as Iran’s flag, and also destroyed infrastructure and undermined people’s safety, in addition to profaning the Islamic veil or hijab.

On the other side of the scale, according to information received by Iran International, Internet service has been completely cut off in parts of Tehran since Thursday, so there is no precise information on the latest news related to the protests in various cities.

As part of the unrest in Iran, which has resulted in deaths and injuries, the Iranian journalist Nilufar Hamedi was arrested in Tehran for being one of the first to publicize the case of Amini, who died in police custody a week ago .

Hamedi, a journalist for the reformist Shargh newspaper, was arrested on Thursday. The media also reported that two other reporters, a photographer and a political activist, Majid Tavakoli, have been arrested, according to what DPA has collected this Friday.

Amini, from Iran’s Kurdish minority, was arrested on 13 September in Tehran for improper dress. She died three days after falling into a coma after fainting in a detention center, amid allegations of torture and ill-treatment. Police have denied the allegations and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has promised an investigation.

The death of Amini has triggered protests in the country that have resulted in at least 17 deaths, according to the Iranian television network Al Alam, although the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) has assured that at least 31 civilians have died because of the repression.
