The image of Prince Harry has plummeted in the United Kingdom as a result of his appearances in the media and the recent publication of his memoirs, according to a survey that brings to 64 percent the proportion of citizens with a negative image of the prince’s youngest son. King Charles III.
Prince Harry’s popularity has turned around in the last two years, marked by his distancing from the British royal family and the successive interviews –two of them this weekend– in which he has uncovered the alleged insults of his family members.
Since September 2022, the trend of detractors has been on the rise and is already reaching maximum levels in the survey carried out periodically by YouGov. Only 26 percent of the 1,693 people surveyed have a good opinion of Enrique, an unprecedented minimum level in the historical series.
The poll also shows a worsening in the image of Prince William, first in the line of succession: his popularity has fallen eight points in one month, to 69 percent, and there are already 20 percent of citizens who have a bad image of the heir.
Enrique’s wife, Meghan Markle, however, remains along similar lines to those of previous studies, with 65 percent detractors and 23 percent supporters. Both in the case of her and her husband, the best data for her correspond to the lowest age group, between 18 and 24 years.
The prince has revealed in his memoirs that he killed more than twenty Taliban during his deployment in Afghanistan as a soldier and has confessed to having used drugs. He has also reported a bad relationship with his closest relatives, whom he has made ugly by not defending him or his wife.
