Prime Minister Robert Fico will not attend the inauguration of the Slovak president due to his delicate state of health

June 11 () –

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, will not be able to attend the inauguration of Peter Pellegrini as the country’s new president on Saturday due to his delicate state of health after he was shot several times in an assassination attempt in mid-May.

President Pellegrini, supported in the last elections by Fico’s party, will take office this Saturday, just over two months after winning the second round of the presidential elections.

Among those attending the event are the highest constitutional representatives of the country, deputies, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and all the candidates who faced in the first round of the elections. Likewise, Fico was on the guest list but will not be able to attend, according to TA3.

The prime minister was hospitalized for two weeks after being shot several times in mid-May while leaving a government meeting in the town of Handlova. At the end of May he was discharged from the hospital to continue his recovery at his home in Captal, Bratislava.
