Primary activities drive economic activity in March

In terms monthlyif compared to February of this year, the IGAE had a growth of 0.3%. By sector, primary activities registered a drop of 6.3%, secondary activities had a growth of 0.6% and tertiary activities grew 0.3%.

“Monthly economic activity in March decreased to 0.3% compared to the estimate of 0.8%, from 1.4% previously,” Monex said in an analysis note.

Original figures

With original figures, the IGAE registered a contraction of 1.3%, caused by a growth of 4.3% in primary activities and falls in secondary and tertiary activities of 3% and -0.6%, respectively.

In the January-March period, also with original figures, the IGAE recorded a growth of 1.6%.

The sector that had the best performance was tertiary activities, with a growth of 2.1%, followed by secondary activities (0.9%) and primary activities (0.6%).
