The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, has confirmed that they will maintain their operations in Africa, once there had been speculation about the possibility that they would withdraw from countries such as Mali and the Central African Republic after the failed rebellion at the end of June in Russia, in the context of the Ukrainian war.

“We continue to work in all the countries where we started or are doing this cooperation and development work,” Prigozhin said in an interview for the Afrique Media TV news portal, where he stressed that “operations have not been reduced or will be reduced.” of the group in Africa.

“If the assistance of the Wagner Group is needed anywhere to combat gangs and terrorists and to protect the interests of the people of these countries, we are ready to immediately start fulfilling this task after agreeing on the conditions,” added the mercenary chief.

A few days after the ill-fated mutiny of Yevgeni and his family due to discontent with the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, already announced that the Wagner Group would continue to operate in Africa.

After the failed rebellion, Yevgeni and his men remain in Belarus with the blessing of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which for kyiv and its Western partners is a sign of the Kremlin chief’s weakening.
