( Spanish) — The National Association of Journalists and the Association of Foreign Press in Peru (APEP) demanded this Saturday to investigate and deduce responsibility for a projectile attack that injured photojournalist Aldair Mejía in the leg while covering the demonstrations in Juliaca, San Román.
According to the organizations, the journalist from the EFE news agency was visibly identified as a press officer, covering the political and social crisis that occurred after the arrest of former President Pedro Castillo.
The National Association of Journalists said in Twitter: “We demand that the corresponding authorities identify and punish those responsible”, while APEP added: “we ask the Peruvian authorities to sanction all police excesses, as well as investigate attacks by protesters against local media journalists.”
