The presidential candidate of the Citizen Prosperity Party, Carlos Pineda, surprised Guatemalans on Wednesday by announcing a reward of about $38,000 to obtain information on a group of hit men who, he said, were planning his assassination.

Through his social networks, he announced the reward while reporting the complaint proceedings before the Public Ministry of Guatemala, and revealed that as an immediate response his security has been reinforced to continue in the presidential campaign ahead of the general elections of 25 of June.

“What I feared so much came, I found out that they already ordered me to be killed, I found out from a good source and from three different genuine sources that they hired a group of hit men from San Andrés Petén led by a certain Patron who moves in the area from Petén, that they have been hired to kill me,” denounced the politician who leads the center-right formation.

The candidate declared that such a plan will not discourage him from continuing in the electoral contest for the presidency of Guatemala to replace Alejandro Giammattei. “I have never had enemies, but now I already have them,” he maintained and reasoned that it could be due to his campaign complaints where “I am touching the pocket of corruption of many powerful people.”
