( Spanish) — The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, announced several security measures this Sunday after a new massacre that left at least 11 dead in Choloma, Cortés, in the north of the country, as detailed on Twitter.
According to the Police report, which appeared in local media, several subjects visited a pool games center and shot at a group of people.
Castro said the crime was committed by “hired thugs, trained and directed by the drug lords who operate with impunity in the Valle de Sula drug corridor.”
The Honduran president announced 24-hour police operations, raids and controls, in addition to a curfew in the city of Choloma during the night and early morning. The measure will also be applied in San Pedro Sula, where violent deaths have been recorded in recent days, starting on July 4.
This last measure will be in force for 15 days, which could be extended, added the president.
A reward of about US$33,000 has been offered in exchange for information to find those responsible for these crimes.
