( Spanish) — The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, decreed this Sunday the “State of Economic, Social and Ecological Emergency” in the department of La Guajira and the Government will work in 11 sectors to face the “humanitarian and climate crisis” in the region, explained the Presidency in a statement.
“The exceptional measures will seek to guarantee food security and sovereignty in La Guajira, through financing, marketing, transportation, storage, sale or distribution of agricultural products, and land titling,” the statement explained.
It was also added that the decree indicates that “to guarantee the survival of the affected people in dignified conditions, the Government will focus its efforts on the sectors of health, water and basic sanitation, agriculture and rural, environment, education, energy, transportation, taxes and investments, inclusion, information and communication technologies and budgetary measures, planning and contracting”.
