Joe Biden announced on April 25 that he is running for a second term as President of the United States. The Democratic president made the announcement in a video shared on social media.
“I am running for re-election,” US President Joe Biden, 80, said Tuesday in a message on Twitter accompanied by a video of more than three minutes. His motto of him to seek this second term? “Let’s finish the job”, that is, let’s finish our work.
This April 25 marks the exact four years since Joe Biden’s last entry into the campaign, when the Democrat launched a battle for the “soul of the United States” and denied Donald Trump a second term.
In his video, Joe Biden denounces the attacks committed by “Republican extremists” against individual liberties. As in the last election, he will present a “ticket” with his current vice president, Kamala Harris.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
That’s why I’m running for re-election as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job. https://t.co/V9Mzpw8Sqy pic.twitter.com/Y4NXR6B8ly

The main handicap for the Democrat, whose popularity rating remains low, is his age. Never before have Americans elected a president so old, and never before has a candidate asked them to hand over the keys to the White House until they are 86 years old.
What would Joe Biden’s chances be if he faced a younger opponent in November 2024? The name of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a 44-year-old hard-right figure, has been widely circulated. But it has not been declared yet.
