President Gotabaya Rajapaksa notifies Parliament of his resignation

First modification:

A spokesman for the Sri Lankan Parliament said Thursday that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, currently in Singapore after fleeing the country, emailed his resignation to the legislature as promised.

Indunil Yapa, spokesman for Parliament, reported this Thursday, July 14, that he had received by email the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled Sri Lanka and landed in Singapore.

Yapa added that the message was transferred to the prosecution to analyze the legality of its content before the resignation is officially validated.

A source consulted by Reuters said that the original statement was also sent by air from the Sri Lankan embassy in Singapore at the request of the president of Parliament, so the official announcement will be made on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka political uncertainty continues. The demonstrators have demanded the resignation of Rajapaksa but also that of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, appointed interim president.
